What Can I Put On A Dog Wound

Cover the wound with gauze wrap it with a bandage and cover it with cohesive bandage but not so tightly that you cut off circulation. What can you put on a dog wound. Your dog will receive oral or injectable antibiotics such as amoxicillin clavulanate or cefazolin. Dry the wound and apply topical medicine to promote healing.

Take a dog for a walk or sit with a cat in your lap but do not apply a bandage over the area. You can slip a stockinet or bootie over a foot and secure it with tape for extra protection. In order to treat any cuts or small wounds that your dog might get the kit should include some sterile bandages some tape a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide and another of betadine or chlorhexidine disinfecting solutions that will clean any wound. At the most basic you can use water to flush a wound clean a few times a day.

If the wound cannot be surgically closed your veterinarian may apply a protective bandage if this is possible. Run cool water on the wound for 5 10 minutes once or twice a day. After cleaning it and making sure your pet hasn t gotten anything in the wound apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment to promote healing and provide a barrier. Two to three times a day clean away debris if necessary and apply the antiseptic and ointment until the skin is healed.
