What Do Cats Think When We Kiss Them

Do cats know that hugs kisses are signs of affection.
Your cat may also rub their head on you to show that they understand your gesture. They do not know instinctively that hugs and kisses from humans are signs of affection but they can learn this. That said they do know when you are expressing love just by your voice and touch. However many cats may not appreciate kisses.
For example when your cat kneads you with his front paws it s a sign of pleasure and happiness of course the incessant kneading of those claws can make it seem like tough love. If your cat moves away from you or their ears go back kissing may not be the best way to show you love them. We are predators and huge. Some pet owners may find that their cats respond to kisses by purring or leaning in.
Conversely some cats learn to kiss you back by bumping their faces into your lips. My new cat which is now 2 years old is a loving little bugger. However if your cat s ears go back he begins to whip his tail back and forth moves away from you hisses or swats at you he doesn t want to be kissed. Likewise they understand to a significant extent the meaning behind us hugging and kissing them.

For example cats will rub their cheeks against each other to show closeness but kisses are definitely not in their repertoire. Cats do not normally like to be kissed so they will ignore your kisses or wipe them off right away by cleaning that area with their paw. It s important to define what is meant by a cat kiss when we think of kissing we think of a touching of the lips that has romantic sexual or platonic but affectionate meaning says mikel. I am sure that cats know that when you kiss them it is a sign of affection.
Some cats don t like it very much but that has to do with their personality. Kittens sniff their mother s breath. They are predators but being small they are also prey. Cats don t kiss like humans but they still have ways of showing you their affection.
Cats show affection to their family members in many ways some of them really resembling our human habits. When you kiss them cats learn that you are showing affection. Recently i wrote an article about whether or not cats give hugs and the surprising answer was that they do. It doesn t mean a cat who dislikes kisses feels less love.
