What Do The British Call The Revolutionary War
Olivia Luz

While wikipedia states that the american revolutionary war is referred to as american war of independence by british authors the most common name in both the united kingdom and the united states is the american revolution.
I guess semantically a revolution is something that takes. The american revolutionary war 1775 1783 also known as the american war of independence or the revolutionary war was initiated by delegates from the thirteen american colonies in congress against great britain over their objection to parliament s taxation policies and lack of colonial representation. Battle of trenton fearing a counterattack by british regulars washington hustled his tired warriors and frozen hessian captives back to the pennsylvania side of the delaware river. In 1857 some indian soldiers in the british east india company s army rebelled.
It s taught as a footnote to the french revolution and the wave of similar revolutions around the world even though the american revolution was demonstrably a catalyst for this wave. Odd really that we see it as that and not as a revolution. We call it the american war of independence. We do have different names for other rebellions in our empire though.
American revolutionary war united states war of independence war of independence american revolution also called united states war of independence or american revolutionary war 1775 83 insurrection by which 13 of great britain s north american colonies won political independence and went on to form the united states of america. As a brit i can confirm we know it as the american war of independence.
