I began my journey to understand the golf shaft about 15 years ago. Golf club numbers refer to the loft which is the angle of the golf club face. What do the numbers on golf clubs mean. When you adjust the loft you are changing the height and distance the golf ball will travel when struck.
Those letters tell golfers flex the relative stiffness of that shaft. To date the only standard is confusion. Golf shafts are designated with a letter code the letters most commonly being x s r a and l. The lower the golf club number the less loft the less intense the angle on the golf club face.
This means the golf ball will travel more distance at a lower height. The two digit number on your wedge that begins with a 4 5 or 6 or god forbid a 7 is the wedge loft. But pretty much every golfer knows what at least one of the numbers on their wedge means.
