What does 925 nh stamped in a ring mean.
If you are looking at a silver ring with a 925 engraving it means that the ring contains 925 parts of pure silver out of 1000 parts whole. The stamp 925 is called a hallmark. Sterling silver jewelry is always stamped with a marking to indicate the percentage of silver it contains. However this isn t the case in some other parts of the world.
Unscrupulous jewelry appraisers may lie about the authenticity of a diamond or may even change out a real diamond for a fake one. This number is known as the hallmark and denotes the percentage of silver purity in the alloy. A 925 stamp inside a silver colored ring means the ring is made of sterling silver but inside a gold colored ring it means the ring is made of vermeil which is gold plated silver. It s also important to keep in mind that pure silver is not really pure silver since it contains a few impurities like copper.
In this case this hallmark does not speak of the gold content in the jewelry. To identify it as such the number 925 is stamped upon the silver often in a hidden part of the jewelry. The 925 stamp is an international industry standard. A bit of hardness has to be introduced by adding other metals such as copper.
