What Is The Difference Between Vascular And Nonvascular Plants

Non vascular plants are the primitive plants that appear first during the evolutionary process.

Vascular plants comprise a true stem that participates in photosynthesis facilitates gaseous exchange while nonvascular plants rarely comprise a true stem system. Vascular plants are larger in size while non vascular plants are smaller in size. Division of labor is an important and more pronounced characteristic feature of the vascular plants. Vascular plants bear fruits and flowers.

The main difference between vascular and non vascular plants is that vascular plants contain a specialized xylem and phloem tissues for the transportation of water and foods while non vascular plants do not contain specialized vascular tissues for transport. The body of vascular plants are differentiated into roots stems and leaves while the body of non vascular plants is not differentiated into roots stems and leaves. The major difference between vascular and nonvascular plants is that the vascular plants have a vascular system to transport foods and water while the nonvascular plants lack with the vascular tissues. Vascular and nonvascular plants are two types of plants in the kingdom plantae.

Vascular plants have a proper root system which supports the plants to anchor the soil and gets nutrients from its whereas in non vascular plants instead of roots they have rhizoids small hairs to support the plant firmly. Vascular plants grow on land desert and other places whereas non vascular plants grow on humid moist and shady areas. Hence nonvascular plants are not as strong as vascular plants. In non vascular plants the gametophyte generation is more dominant with haploid gametophyte.

Vascular plants are green plants with true leaves stems and roots. Non vascular plants are short plants with poorly developed roots and stem.
