What Is The Difference Between Voluntary And Involuntary Muscles
Olivia Luz

Voluntary muscles are associated with nerves under voluntary control whereas involuntary muscles are associated with nerves of autonomic nervous system which is under involuntary control.
The main difference between voluntary and involuntary muscles is that voluntary muscles are innervated by the somatic nervous system whereas involuntary muscles are innervated by the autonomic nervous system. The involuntary muscle includes the smooth muscle that lines the organs and the heart muscle of the heart. The contraction is under the control of the autonomic nervous system. The voluntary muscle is under the control of the autonomic nervous system while the involuntary muscle is under the control of the somatosensory nervous system.
In the voluntary muscles contraction is always fast and powerful. Voluntary muscles include skeletal muscle that adheres to bones and skin. Involuntary muscles are uninucleate and the nucleus is centrally placed. Unlike involuntary muscles voluntary muscles can be controlled consciously.
Voluntary and involuntary muscles are two components of the muscular system of the animal kingdom. Voluntary muscles are multinucleate and the nucleus is present at the rim periphery. Involuntary muscle includes smooth muscle that lines organs and cardiac muscle of the heart. The involuntary muscles are involved in the movements of the internal organs.

The voluntary muscles are multinucleated long and cylindrical however the involuntary muscles are uninucleated thin small and spindle in shape. The muscle cells in the voluntary muscles are long cylindrical and unbranched with the nucleus located towards the periphery of the cell. Voluntary muscles include skeletal muscle that attaches to bone and skin. Contractions of voluntary muscles may be rapid and forceful whereas that of involuntary muscles are rhythmic and slow.
The muscle cells in involuntary muscles are thin long and spindle shaped with a centrally located nucleus. The difference between voluntary and involuntary muscle is mainly due to their functional property. The voluntary muscles are involved in moving body parts and locomotion. The functioning of a voluntary muscle is in our control or controlled by the somatic nervous system.
