Not only do these holes allow you to lubricate the lock but if the lock is used outside it also allows any water that may enter from rain etc to drain from the lock. They let water drain out and they can be used for pouring engine oil in the case the lock is stuck. So let me tell you the use of these little holes. Similarly no one notice that there are two little holes in a lock but we never try to know about these and use of these holes.
These little holes are known as their lives because these are the source of engine oil and lock are oiled from these holes when they get rust. This helps prevent rust and keeps the lock from seizing or allowing water inside to freeze in colder temperatures. You may have never noticed but there s a small hole next to the keyhole on the bottom of most padlocks and the reason is twofold. Although many thoughts it is an alternative to open the padlock without a key.
Firstly it lets water drain out if you re using it outdoors preventing it from rusting or freezing up in the rain or snow. But the truth is the hole is there allow water to drain out of the padlock. Some padlocks especially those for outdoor use may have a tiny hole in the side of the cylinder slot. One of its functions is to keep the padlock mechanism unaltered over time expelling water which could stagnate due to excessive humidity or freeze inside the padlock at low temperatures.
