Meteorites have already landed on earth.
These smaller pieces of rock are called meteoroids. Sometimes asteroids can bump into each other in space and this can mean small pieces break off. Meteors are burning rocks while meteorites contain a combination of metal magnetic elements and nickel. Meteors are falling down to earth streaking light when they break down in the atmosphere.
Meteors are debris considered to be part of the solar system and they can either burn up hit the ground or deflect off the earth s atmosphere. A small body starts its life as a meteoroid floating through space between the planets until it makes a bright streak of light in earth s atmosphere as a meteor and then if it isn t consumed by frictional heating finally lands on the ground as a meteorite. The key difference between meteor and meteorite is meteors are the light gates that occur when pieces of matter meteoroids enter the atmosphere while meteorites are meteoroids that do not disintegrate in the atmosphere and make an impact on the surface. What is a meteor and a meteorite.
