Some may want longer tummy time sessions and others shorter ones.
By the time your baby is 5 to 6 months old they ll likely be. By 3 months most babies can lift their heads 45 degrees leaning on their forearms. Try doing this two to three times a day. Observe your baby and adjust tummy time accordingly for their needs.
Give your baby about 20 minutes of tummy time per day once he is between 3 and 4 months old to help him develop neck and upper body strength. After a diaper change or nap place your baby on his or her stomach on the blanket for three to five minutes. Tummy time in newborn baby must be started from 2 weeks of age and is helpful in making the child free of the crumbled shape that the baby was in the mother s womb. Start tummy time by spreading out a blanket in a clear area.
Plan on beginning by giving your baby 3 5 minutes of tummy time two or even three times a day. Aim for around 20 to 30 minutes a day of baby tummy time by the time he is 3 or 4 months old. Then keep the practice up until baby can roll over on his own a feat many babies accomplish around 6 or 7 months of age. As he gets older and stronger gradually increase the length of time working up to a total of 20.

Before that although it is ok to put your baby down on their tummy while they are awake and being supervised if they aren t lifting and moving their head much then it really isn t tummy time. Start introducing your baby to tummy time by placing him across your lap for a few minutes a few times per day. In the beginning newborn tummy time should consist of two to three 3 minute sessions daily. The more you do tummy time the more developed your child s ability will become and the longer sessions they ll be able to do.
