To tell the edition of a book look at the bottom of the copyright page. No price inside front flap and or no ten digit isbn number on the back of the dust jacket and or there is a small indented spot on the back of the book. If a 1 is present in any sequence it s usually a sign that the book is a first edition. In publishing terms an edition is technically all copies of a book that were printed from the same setting of type and the book is only described as a second edition if substantial changes are made to the copy.
