What Age Do Kids Learn To Tie Shoes

Although plenty of kids shoes have velcro closures tying laces is still a big kid accomplishment worth teaching.

According to parenting magazine most girls aren t ready to tie their shoes until about age 6 and most boys aren t ready until at least age 8. Velcro shoes have made it so kids don t need to know how to tie. From clinical and just life experience i see a much wider range typically somewhere between 4 8 years of age. Most kids seemed to figure it out sometime during the year while a few left for summer vacation still not being able to tie.

So i guess around the age of 5 6 years. When i was little we had to be able to do it to go to kindergarten age 5. Most shoes that fit kids up to about age 8 are made with velcro now. In fact most girls don t master the task of tying their own shoes until age 6 and boys may need help until age 7.
