What Do You Put In A Hummingbird Feeder
Olivia Luz

The best hummingbird food is made using two simple ingredients from your kitchen.
The next step is to boil the mixture until the sugar dissolves completely. A hummingbird feeder should be filled with nectar prepared with 1 part sugar and 4 parts water. That being said keeping a feeder completely in the shade isn t ideal either. There is no need to dye the water red.
Simply add 1 4 cup of sugar per 1 cup of water. A 4 1 water to sugar ratio is the best homemade nectar solution because it most closely mimics natural sucrose found in flowers that hummingbirds prefer and is easiest for the birds to digest efficiently. When making the mixture you shouldn t use red dye artificial sweetener honey and chili powder. It offers no nutritional value and some of the chemicals in the red dye could in fact actually harm the hummingbirds.
To further protect your hummingbird nectar from going bad you ll want to put your feeder in a place that gets a mix of sun and shade throughout the day. Once you fill the feeder with nectar place it outside in a suitable spot and keep extra sugar water in a refrigerator. Allow the mixture to cool off and the put it in the hummingbird feeder. It isn t recommended to use honey in the mixture because when honey becomes diluted with water fungus and bacteria grow in it.
