As lamb is younger there is little fat on lamb meat. Both lambs and sheep could be slaughtered for food but lamb meat costs a much higher price than sheep meat more commonly known as mutton.
A sheep will feed on grass and completely different crops whereas a lamb will feed on the milk of its mother. The difference between lamb and sheep is of their age. The key difference between sheep and lamb is that sheep refers to the actual adult animal while lamb refers to baby sheep that is in its first year or to meat of young sheep. Sheep are a type of domesticated animals.
