Climate change refers to the increasing changes in the measures of climate over a long period of time including. Climate change is a broader term that reflects the fact that carbon pollution does more than just warm our planet. Global warming applies to the long term trend of rising average global temperatures. Global warming refers only to the earth s rising surface temperature while climate change includes warming and the side effects of warming like melting glaciers heavier rainstorms or more frequent drought.
Global warming refers to the rise in global temperatures due mainly to the increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming and climate change while closely related and sometimes used interchangeably technically refer to two different things. Said another way global warming is one symptom of the much larger problem of human caused climate change. Climate change encompasses global warming but refers to the broader range of changes that are happening to our planet.
