Then when the flowers are spent cut off the flower head to prevent wilting removing the leaves and stems once they turn yellow. Not sure where you are located but am sure that once the weather gets warm and you see tulips blooming outdoors it is safe to plant the bulbs. Yes you can leave them in pots.
